Supplied as a complete travel structure
The order covered an 82 metre travel gantry girder alongside the two cranes. Supplying the runway and the cranes together means the wheel loads, rail alignment and end stops are engineered as one system rather than reconciled on site between two vendors — which matters more, not less, when the site is on another continent.
VFD control on a mill house duty
Mill house cranes work a repetitive lift cycle through the crushing season. VFD control on the motions gives controlled acceleration and positioning, which reduces load swing and takes shock loading off the girder, gearboxes and rope.
Cable drag chain power feed
A cable drag chain system was specified in place of a conductor bar to carry power along the 82 metre travel. It is the more tolerant choice in a mill house environment where airborne fibre and moisture shorten the life of exposed conductors.
